Sometimes a person has to travel across the Globe or far far away to rediscover himself and when this happens he knows it, he feels it. This is the most important trip a man can take! The trip to his inner self, the trip to the re discovery of himself.
In the middle of a snow storm, far away from people and civilisation, the only thing that warms your heart is His presence when nature paints the portrait of herself along with His blessings.
Tranquility in the middle of a storm … possible? No… plausible… we may make plans but He is smiling down on us 🙂 Amazing scenery overlooking Aegean Sea – and as for home, the home of Christianity. Mount Athos…
This small chapel on your right in -8C has the warmest feeling once you enter it and has no heating or means of regulating the temperature other than its Holly Spirit that is its main resident.
A distant whisper of vespers is coming from the crevices of the stone made wall…the vespers of the monks by the main church and its everywhere…. your lips try to follow and keep up but your lack of knowledge of the “letter” (as we are calling them) is something that makes your soul feel a sorrow followed by a “why”..why haven’t I spent the necessary time to learn them… a sorrow and a shame at the same time… and there you are in the warmest place, wind, snow, vespers, the Holly Spirit present and you re discovering yourself with a camera in your hands that takes a whole new role in that moment. It is not there to capture, but to document only and although you know that most of it might not see the light of the day or make it outside the monastery, you do know that it is a blessing that will remain in that monastery for people to come and see it, no credits no name nothing, just you knowing that you were there and you documented it and that was all you needed, because in the end of the day thats what “diakonima” is all about. It is what makes your soul feel complete! Amen.
